Incorporating an excess of sugar is one of the worst things you can do to your body! Sugar affects almost every system of your body…your brain suffers, your skin ages faster, and of course, your energy surges…and then bottoms out.

If you find yourself craving sugar on a daily basis and are trying to slow down your sugar consumption, it’s important to understand the root cause of why you’re craving it.

Here are 4 ways to calm your sugar habit…

1 – Catch Some Zzz’s

Not getting enough sleep is shown to affect the types of food you eat. Research shows that people who are sleep deprived crave sweeter, more high-calorie foods to stimulate the regions of the brain that affect alertness and mood.

2 –  Take Time for Mindfulness

Eating in a mindful state allows you to be more aware of your eating habits, cravings, and emotions.  While eating, try being more  present by slowing down your bites and putting away your phone. By being more  conscious of your eating habits, you will learn how to tell the  difference between true hunger and a craving.

3 – Avoid Getting Overly Hungry

Hunger is one of th biggest reason why cravings  pop up. To avoid this, keep a few healthy snacks in your purse or car. Skipping a snack or meal can lead to dips in blood sugar and cause cravings in order to feel a surge of quick energy.

4 – Do a Water Check

Oftentimes, cravings happen because you’re dehydrated! At regular intervals during the day, make sure you’re reaching for a glass of water to stay hydrated.
