10/10 Challenge: Day 5

Go to bed

WOW! Did you know that lack of sleep is a main ingredient in the recipe for a excess fat? It’s true! This deprivation of zzz’s slows down your metabolism, which can sabotage your weight loss goals.

It works like this: Your fat cells produce leptin (a hormone which tells the body how much potential energy it has stored). Leptin production rises while you’re sleeping, which means that if you’re lacking in the beauty sleep department, your hormone levels can take a spin.

The end result? Your body has no idea how much energy it has stored, so you end up holding onto fat instead of burning it.

Make getting a full night’s rest an must-do as part of your weight-loss regimen. Not only will this help you boost your metabolism, but it will also help curb your cravings and prevent energy drains throughout the day.

We all have a bad night’s sleep from time to time. When you do, take extra care of yourself the next day. Instead of reaching for sugary or fatty snacks, focus on lean proteins like fish, chicken, beef or eggs that will keep you satisfied until your next meal. Then take some time that evening to slow down and relax to ensure a better night’s sleep.
