What Is “Bootcamp” Style Of Exercise?
You may have noticed that “Bootcamp” Workouts are all the rage right now, both at larger gyms and private fitness facilities. The term “bootcamp” might bring up some pretty intimidating images, such as an angry drill sergeant barking out orders like “Drop and give me 50!” And for some types of bootcamp training, that’s not so far from reality. But don’t let that scare you. In general, “bootcamp workouts” simply mean circuit training – a routine that has you perform several different exercises, one after another. For example, you do one set of a strength training move, followed by a quick burst of cardio, and so on. So whether you have 15, 30 or 60 minutes, you can design a workout that burns more calories than reading on a treadmill or an elliptical.
Here are 3 reasons to include bootcamp training as part of your weekly routine:
- Bootcamp training makes your workout count no matter your fitness level is. Because it’s station-based, you can choose the exercises that work best for you. If you don’t like burpees, don’t add them to your circuit!
- If cardio is your go-to workout, but you know you should be incorporating more strength training (or vice versa), bootcamp workouts are a win-win. By allowing you to pair bursts cardio with intervals of strength training, you’ll torch calories in less time.
- It’s also the ultimate boredom buster. Since you’re in constant motion from one thing to the next, you don’t have a lot of time to think about your grocery list, or what you’d rather be doing. You only have a few seconds to focus on what you’re doing right now, and what you’re going to do next. And couldn’t we all stand to live our lives a little more in the moment?
