Are you doing too much cardio? Not enough? If you’re trying to lose weight or stay healthy (and I know you are!), it’s only natural to wonder how much aerobic and anaerobic activity you should fit into your schedule each week. Today, I’ll show you the breakdown of exactly how much time to keep your heart-rate up this week.

For substantial health benefits, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends that you get 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week. Put simply, that’s a total of 2 1/2 hours, or five 30-minute sessions throughout the week.

If you’re on a tight schedule and 30 minutes of cardio a day is out of your time-range, you’re in luck! All you have to do is amp up the intensity of your cardio through HIIT Training, or exercise more vigorously. When you increase your intensity, you cut your necessary cardio time in half to 75 minutes a week…that’s an average of less than 11 minutes, seven days a week! My suggestion is that you find a happy medium. Some days, perform a moderate-intensity workouts, and other days, go for broke! With this approach, you need around 115 minutes per week.

The real key to remember is that exercise is cumulative! If you don’t have time to fit your entire workout in one chunk of your day, break it up! Try doing 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes in the afternoon, and 10 minute in the evening, and it all adds up to your 30 minutes of exercise.
